Setting Clear Treatment Goals and Staying on Track in Therapy
Wednesday, January 22, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET (Now with 1 YEAR access to the recording)
When clients have multiple problems, including chronic crisis and avoidance, staying on track in therapy is challenging. We will examine how to set the most helpful pragmatic goals in treatment, beginning with safety, and how to set them collaboratively. One of the difficulties in therapy is when the therapist has different goals than the client. We will discuss how to manage that discrepancy and bring therapy more in line with what the client can do in the moment.
Finally, we will explore ways to keep sessions on track.
Participants will be able to:
1. Identify practical treatment goals for clients with Complex Trauma and Dissociation
2. Identify when the therapist has different goals than the client and readjust to meet the client.
3. Use at least three (3) interventions to stay on track in sessions.

Distinguishing DID from Personality Disorders, Autism Spectrum, Bipolar, and Psychosis
Wednesday, February 26, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET (Now with 1 YEAR access to the recording)
In this session we will explore how to distinguish the unstable and fragmented sense of self that occurs in personality disorders – especially Borderline and Narcissistic – from the dissociative divisions of self in DID. We will also explore how to distinguish Autism spectrum, Bipolar disorder and the psychotic disorders from DID based on clinical interviewing.

Participants will be able to:
1. Compare self fragmentation and instability in personality disorders from DID
2. Explain how self fragmentation in Autism spectrum and Bipolar disorder differ from DID
3. Identify at least two (2) differences between psychosis and DID

Issues in Diagnosis of DID: Resistance to the Diagnosis, False Positives, Self Diagnosis, and Comorbidity
Wednesday, March 26, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET (Now with 1 YEAR access to the recording)
Participants will learn whether and how to present a diagnosis of a dissociative disorder to a client and how to determine whether sharing the diagnosis will be helpful. We will also explore the challenges of helping client who come to therapy with a self-diagnosis, which may or may not be accurate. Clinical interviewing is critical in making the distinction between false positives and actual dissociative disorders. Finally, we will examine the challenges of diagnosis when there are multiple symptoms that fit with several diagnoses.

Participants will be able to:
1. Explain whether and how to present a diagnosis of DID to a client
2. Apply at least three (3) strategies to work with clients who self-report the diagnosis of DID, but who may not have the diagnosis
3. Apply at least three (3) strategies to prioritize which symptoms and disorders should be addressed in the moment with clients who suffer from multiple comorbid problems.

Stabilization with Dissociative Parts
Wednesday, April 23, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET (Now with 1 YEAR access to the recording)
While stabilization in general is widely discussed, we will explore the special issues of helping the client stabilize by working with dysregulated and conflicted dissociative parts. Stepwise interventions beginning with conflicts about daily life will be shared. In addition we will explore how to work with highly dysregulated parts, from parts stuck in trauma to parts that imitate the perpetrator. An emphasis will be placed on paced and integrative interventions that serve to regulate the person as a whole.
Participants will be able to:
1. Identify at least three (3) interventions to support dissociative parts to collaborate to improve functioning in daily life
2. Explain the rationale of focusing on reducing immediate conflicts and dysregulation while not processing memories for highly distressed parts
3. Apply interventions to calm and regulate the person as a whole

Working with Suicidality and Dissociative Parts
Wednesday, May 28, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET (Now with 1 YEAR access to the recording)
The risk of suicide attempts is high in clients with DID and OSDD. We will explore how to work with chronic suicidality as well as how to determine the role of various parts in suicidality. Specific issues include dealing with parts that are completely focused on suicide, parts wanting to die because they are stuck in trauma, depleted parts, and parts that push suicide as a
punishment. The role of shame in suicidality will be discussed.
Participants will be able to:
1. Identify and employ interventions to decrease suicidality in highly dissociative clients
2. Apply at least two (2) specific interventions to work with suicidal parts stuck in time or focused on punishing the client by dying.
3. Use at least two (2) interventions to support hope and reduce chronic shame.

EMDR with Dissociative Parts: When, How, and When Not to Proceed
Wednesday, June 18, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET (Now with 1 YEAR access to the recording)
Processing of traumatic memory is more complex and must often be delayed in clients with DID. How can we know when parts are ready to process. And when should we titrate versus being able to use standard protocol? Are there times when we should not attempt to process? Should we process with one, two or more, or all parts at once? These and other issues will be
discussed to clarify memory processing with highly dissociative clients.

Participants will be able to:
1. Identify at least one (1) instance when not to proceed with memory processing with dissociative parts
2. Identify whether EMDR should be with a single parts, sets of parts, or the whole system
3. Explain when titration is important versus standard protocol EMDR with dissociative parts
